Last night, the Lady Golfers traveled to Oak Tree Golf Course in Plainfield where they competed against Avon North & South, Plainfield, and Brownsburg East in the Hendricks County Tournament. Playing against tough competition, the girls showed steely resolve and played their best golf of the season. After all the scores were totaled, 4 Bulldog golfers were top 10 in the county and the Bulldogs were crowned Hendricks County champions, defeating Plainfield by a single stroke! The Lady Dog’s team score of 189 was also the best in school history as they bested the prior record of 191 set in 2015. Leading the charge for the Bulldogs was Brooke Anderson. Brooke shot a fantastic round of 45 that was good for 2nd in the county. Her phenomenal round tied her with current Brownsburg High School #1 golfer Marissa Kier for best Bulldog round in the county tournament. Brooke’s round was highlighted by powerful, straight drives, that traveled at least 3 times as far as Mr. Ross’, best efforts, and led to an amazing birdie on the difficult par 5 8th hole. Shooting 47 and finishing 4th in the county was Brenna Fruits. Brenna continued her always consistent play by finding fairways and getting up and down for three consecutive pars making her short game the envy of Mr. Pritchard. Shooting 48 and finishing 6th in the county was 7th grade sensation Maddie Campbell. Maddie’s putter was on fire as she drained putts from all over the greens including a clutch putt on the difficult 5th hole to save par. Maddie can be expecting a call today from Mr. Wiley today concerning putting lessons. Rounding out the scoring for the Bulldogs was Elly Stein who shot 49, good for 9th in the county. While not her lowest round of the year, Elly’s round included two clutch pars on the 6th and 8th holes that sealed the victory for the Bulldogs. An amazing effort girls! Coach Swynenburg is extremely proud of you! The Lady Golfers will be back in action next Tuesday as they take on cross town rival Avon South.
